World Peace Pagoda Hike and Boat Ride in Pokhara

About this tour

  • Boat across Phewa Lake
  • Forest trail with prayer flags
  • World Peace Pagoda viewpoint
  • Guide and boat included

The World Peace Pagoda, or Shanti Stupa, sits on the forested ridge on the south side of Phewa Lake. Japanese Buddhist monks built its gleaming white dome as a symbol of peace, and it has one of the best views in Pokhara: the lake below, the city beyond and the Annapurna range behind it all.

We think the old way of getting there is still the nicest. You cross the lake in a wooden boat, then walk up through the forest past strings of prayer flags, which takes about an hour and a half. After some time at the stupa, we walk back down to the shore and row back to Lakeside, ideally just as the afternoon light starts to soften.
