Phewa Lake
Nepal's second-largest lake and the heart of Pokhara, with painted boats, Tal Barahi Temple and the Annapurnas reflected on calm mornings.

Phewa Lake (Phewa Tal) is Nepal's second-largest lake, and it's the reason Pokhara feels the way it does. Along its eastern shore runs Lakeside, the long, laid-back strip of hotels, cafés and shops where most visitors stay.
What to do
- Hire one of the painted wooden boats and row out to Tal Barahi Temple on its little island.
- Watch the sunset from the shore, or better still, from the water.
- Walk or cycle along the lakeshore path, away from the busy centre.
Good to know
The water is calmest, and the mountain reflections clearest, early in the morning. You can hire boats by the hour at several jetties along Lakeside.
See it on our Pokhara City Tour, or pair a boat ride with the World Peace Pagoda hike.
